Honor Your Mentors

Honor Your Mentors

At this point of my life, I look back and remember the time when I was a beginner and totally newbie or noob.

We all have awesome guys who became our “mentor”.

They offered us the ropes to a specific skill, influenced us in our career, taught us in topics we don’t know and coached us in life.

A mentor brings the best in us. They are like a double-edged sword. On one side, as a personal guide and another as a challenger or maybe an obstacle to beat.

Few years ago, I read about a self-confessed graphic designer who keeps stressing he learned on his own. Implying that the young man was not taught or mentored by someone and he “self-studied”. I thought about his selfishness to exist alone. I don’t know where he is now.

The reality is, we need someone better than us to elevate us in a higher level.

I look at younger professionals and students I had influenced and mentored in extra unique way and I remember my hunger to learn. I’m impressed to receive their acknowledgement in their own humble way.

If we fail to honor our mentors, we are concluding our own “legacy”.

We need to show our mentees to honor our mentors to give and receive what is due. This is a humbling act and a proud moment at the same time.

I have a lot of direct and indirect mentors in my life. May I dedicate this post to them for building me up and shaping me the way God wants me to be.

Top 5 of my mentors: my Father Bro. Serge, Tito Rey on various life understandings and my older cousin Jojo on career, social life, enjoying life, driving and more. Pastor Paul who was instrumental in my spiritual journey and Dean Annie for believing in me. Two thumbs up!

It is difficult to see the world without proper guidance, inspiration and good perspective.

We are learners in the first place and no one is exempted. So, it is right to thank and honor our mentors who played an important role in our life no matter how small or big it is.

I realized when a person is not teachable, he will never be developed.

A teachable heart is a prerequisite for greatness.

May we all be inspired to become good mentor and mentee at the same time.
